Other library facilities: The library also houses two significant music collections. The Al Cohn Memorial Jazz Collection contains manuscripts, recordings, and memorabilia from the collection of the late Al Cohn (1925-1988). Among his many accomplishments Cohn is remembered as a member of Woody Herman's Four Brothers band, and as performer (tenor saxophone) and arranger for Artie Shaw and Elliot Lawrence, with whom he was associated for a substantial part of the 50s. In 1957 Cohn teamed up with Zoot Sims, a partnership that lasted into the 80s. This collection has been supplemented with the jazz collections of Coover Gazdar and Eddie Safranski. The John Eaton collection houses the performance audio and videorecordings and manuscripts of John Eaton. John Eaton is internationally recognized as a composer and performer of electronic and microtonal music. His awards include a 1990 MacArthur "genius award," three Prix de Rome and two Guggenheim grants, and commissions from the Koussevitzky and Fromm Foundations, the Santa Fe Opera, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Public Broadcasting Corporation.

Museums or other Special Academic Buildings on Campus:The 61 campus buildings that comprise East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania are located on 213 acres in the East Stroudsburg community. In addition to the academic facilities, nine residence halls, housing 2,200 students, and a 1,000-seat dining hall are located on campus. The Student Activity Association, Inc., owns Stony Acres, a 119-acre off-campus student recreation area near Marshalls Creek, that includes a lodge and a small lake. The primary academic building is Stroud Hall. This four-story classroom building contains lecture halls, computer and language laboratories, instructional spaces and office areas. Beers Lecture Hall, which opened in 1997, seats 140 students and serves as a distance learning facility. The Fine and Performing Arts Center consists of two theatres, a gallery, concert hall, rehearsal areas, various art studios, and classrooms. Koehler Fieldhouse serves as the primary physical education facility. The University Center includes a food court, commuter lounge, convenience store, game room and the University Store. Other major classroom buildings are: Moore Biology building which contains a large group lecture hall, a greenhouse and wildlife museum; Gessner Science Hall which contains laboratories for physics and chemistry; DeNike Center for Human Services which houses classrooms and has laboratory areas for the departments of health, nursing, and recreation, and leisure services management; LaRue Hall, which houses laboratories for speech pathology and audiology; Rosenkrans Hall which houses offices and media communication and technology and programs for academic support; and the Center for Hospitality Management including Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism facilities, Keystone Room and P&J's, a student run dining facility. Additionally in 2003, East Stroudsburg University built a new state-of-the-art student recreation center, a new alumni center, and renovated Zimbar-Liljenstein Hall to serve as a one-stop enrollment services center. But perhaps ESU's finest achievement in the 21st century will be the imminent construction of a new Science and Technology Center. Besides filling a very basic need for more laboratory space, the new facility will, with the Moore Biology and Gessner Science buildings, form a nexus on campus dedicated to the sciences. The newly formed complex will represent more than merely a physical union of buildings. It will stimulate an intellectual union of interdisciplinary projects transcending traditional confines of teaching and learning. The building will benefit virtually every ESU student, not just those in the science-related programs. The three-story building will house the computer science, computer security, chemistry, industrial physics, mathematics, and biotechnology programs, as well as part of physics and biology, allowing for synergy between disciplines and interdisciplinary research. It will contain classrooms, contemporary laboratories, faculty offices, and multiple interaction zones to encourage increased collaboration among students and faculty members. Now, more than ever, East Stroudsburg University is providing its students with new opportunities and programs comparable to the best public universities in the country.
